DELFT
ROTTERDAM

Unfortunately, the only place we went in Delft was the porcelain museum. It is a space filled with histories of porcelain and the different types of it around the world. There is also a factory to allow us to see how the porcelains are made. Overall, it was a good experience for me to see how a porcelain space is as it would allow me to see what is needed in the pottery space that I am going to have in my building.

NETHERLANDS

Moments and exchanges

Delft is famous for their porcelain kitchen ware and decorations. Almost any gift shop would sell those blue porcelain souvenirs that are usually shaped in tiny Dutch shoes or their famous architectural buildings. I decided to go to one of their porcelain factory to discover more about this form of art which lead me to the Royal Delft centre. Since part of my project is about pottery, I decided to explore and draw a 1:1 CAD drawing of the spaces in Royal Delft. Through this drawing, I got to learn more on how porcelain is made and how are they used in our daily lives. After this visit, I realize when food is presented on a beautifully designed plate, I feel like it actually enhances the food experience when it is consumed. I believe the form, colour and texture of the plates place quite a significant impact on the food eating experience and that's one of the main aspects I'm trying to achieve for my 3rd year project.

About
MY EXPERIENCE
AMSTERDAM

When I arrived in Netherlands, I spent most of my time in Amsterdam. The place was filled with architecture that was so different and unique compare to the United Kingdom. Most of the building were apartments and there were many canals surrounding  them too. One thing that stuck out the most is the transportation system because riding bicycles in the streets are very common over there and it is surprisingly safe.

The last place that I went to is Rotterdam. Overall, the one place that stood out the most was the Markthal market. The place is filled with all kind of food with such a lively atmosphere which I hope to create in my building. The other places I went to are the Kunsthal Museum and the Vrolik Museum.
