ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY

This section shows the overall environmental performance of the building.

VENTILLATION

Ground: Fresh air is pumped from the side of the building and then it is excreted out on the roof by an extractor fan roof vent.

Underground: Fresh air is also pumped from the side of the building and then it is excreted out from the open courtyard space. The hot air from the cooking can be well ventilated from the exposed courtyard.

HEATING

Ground: Each of the spaces on the ground floor have heating system to warm the interior space during the winter. The space below is the cleaning area so a different heating is required.

Underground: The restaurant below also has floor heating system. However, spaces such as the kitchen and cleaning space do not have the floor heating system. Due to being located underground, the thermal atmosphere is more constant and warm compared to the top floor.

WATER

The water is collected from the open space which is highlighted in pink. The water is drained to the ground and stored in the boiler room underground.

The boiler room is located closely to the toilet and the kitchen space. After that, grey water will then be used on the plants in the courtyard and the garden on top.

ELECTICITY

Although this design do not have solar panels, but this method could be easily installed on the roof to make energy usage be more environmental friendly. Due to the roof light on the ground floor, energy for lighting would not be needed a lot in the morning except for the underground space due to some spaces not having enough natural light in. Overall, most energy usage would allocated to lighting up the underground space.
